Police warn of fly-by-night asphalt pavers

The Williams Lake RCMP are advising the public to be aware of two males going door-to-door looking for asphalt paving jobs.

The Williams Lake RCMP are advising the public to be aware of two males going door-to-door in the Williams Lake and 150 Mile House areas looking for asphalt paving jobs.

"Their story was they were working in the area and because they had excess asphalt they could offer a substantial discount," said John Pilszek, detachment operations support for the Williams Lake RCMP.

"Police would like to remind the public that most reputable asphalt contractors know with great accuracy the amount of asphalt required to finish a job. Never hire any contractor on the spot, ask for references and follow up with these."

Police said to obtain a written contract and added even if a discount is offered to never pay with cash.

"If the quote offered seems too good to be true, it probably is," Pilszek said.
