The search for a man missing in the Valentine Lake area west of 100 Mile House Saturday, Oct. 3 had a sad ending.
At about 12:45 p.m. on Oct. 3, South Cariboo Search and Rescue working along side the 100 RCMP located a deceased man matching the description of the missing man they had been searching for. RCMP are now working with the Coroners Office to assist in their investigation.
“It cannot be overstated the tremendous asset that South Cariboo Search and Rescue is to the greater 100 Mile House area,” RCMP Staff Sergeant Svend Nielsen said in a news release. “100 Mile House RCMP deeply appreciates your commitment and assistance during these types of investigations.”
Nielsen also wished to acknowledge the assistance of members of the public who provided them with information about the activities of the man prior to his disappearance and death. The 55-year-old Sardis resident had been camping in the area for several weeks and had befriended many in the Valentine Lake Campground, Nielsen noted.
Next of kin have been notified and the RCMP and SCSAR extends their condolences to the individual’s family and friends.
At the time of the search RCMP asked members of the public avoid the area in and around the access to Valentine Lake and the forestry campsite due to the ongoing operation.
