Williams Lake RCMP seized 51 marijuana plants, dried marijuana, hashish, magic mushrooms, weapons and a quantity of cash from an apartment in the 1300 block of Western Avenue Thursday.

The RCMP were alerted to the operation by building maintenance staff who were investigating a “fluid leak” and discovered the plants.

When confronted by maintenance, a male inside the apartment engaged in a scuffle before leaping off the balcony. Despite a 15 to 20 foot drop to the ground, the male fled from the scene.

The Williams Lake RCMP set up a perimeter to contain the suspect, and the police dog was called in to track the suspect through the dairy fields. The 22-year-old male from Williams Lake was arrested near Highway 97 and Douglas Road.

Charges of production of a controlled substance and possession for the purpose of trafficking will be forwarded to the federal Crown. The male was released and will appear in court Aug. 24.
