Park event planned to clear air on burning rail ties

Organizers describing themselves as a “group of concern citizens” are planning an afternoon of entertainment in Boitanio Park.

Organizers describing themselves as a “group of concern citizens” are planning an afternoon of entertainment in Boitanio Park this Sunday, Oct. 2, to share information on Atlantic Power’s recent approval to burn rail ties in the lakecity.

According to the group’s Facebook page and posters, the event, called A Fresh Autumn Air Shindig in the Park, will serve to share information and hear any concerns that Williams Lake residents may have on the contentious issue.

Live entertainment includes music by Drum & Bell Tower, the shadow puppetry of Miss White Spider Arts, Rowan Dolighan and others.

The event is planned to run from 2 until 5 p.m. and is free of charge.

Atlantic Power received government approval Sept. 6 to burn up to 50 per cent rail ties at its Williams Lake facility. The public has 30 days from the time of the amended permit approval to appeal the decision.

The group states they are concerned about the potential health impacts of burning rail ties.
