No strike at TRU Williams Lake campus Thursday

Thompson Rivers University in Williams Lake will not be affected by initial CUPE job action in the province.

At the onset, the Canadian Union of Public Employee strike will not affect Thompson Rivers University Williams Lake campus.

Strike notice was served Monday and will take effect Thursday at several universities around the province with job action.

There are 15 full-time C.U.P.E. and 15 C.U.P.E. auxiliary employees working at TRU in Williams Lake but they will not be part of the initial strike action, says Dan Gawthrop of union communications says.

"C.U.P.E. Local 4879 has chosen not to take strike action this week, although things could change later on," Gawthrop says.

The purpose of the strike is to try to get the universities back to the negotiation table.

"We're after a contract, not after an extended strike," Gawthrop says.
