New farmers market to run on Saturdays

For a one-year trial period the City has agreed to allow the Williams Lake Saturday Market Association to hold its markets at Herb Gardner park.

The trial period will run from June 11 to Oct. 29. The association cited visibility as a reason for wanting to locate at the park.

The organization that operates the Saturday market is separate from the Cariboo Direct Farm Market Association which operates the Friday market.

In a letter written to council, the association noted based on public appeal and its research it believes the community could be better served with an additional farmers market. The association added that for individuals who could not make the Friday market an alternate one on Saturday may be helpful.

“The Saturday market will provide the community with another opportunity to access fresh, local food as well as be an exciting weekend event for all,” the association added.
