Five candidates for the BC NDP leadership will be in Williams Lake for a public all-candidates debate.

Five candidates for  the BC NDP leadership will be in Williams Lake for a public all-candidates debate.

The confirmed candidates are Adrian Dix, Mike Farnworth, John Horgan, Nicholas Simons, and Dana Larsen.

The debate will be held in the Overlander conference room in Williams Lake on March 14, starting at 6:30 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m.

“I am very excited that the candidates will be coming to Williams Lake,” says Dave Ligertwood, Cariboo Chilcotin NDP president, “and also having the debate open to the public. Having an opportunity to hear the candidates in an open debate will give everyone the chance to hear the NDP leadership candidates’ vision for the province. The Cariboo Chilcotin has been hit hard by 11 years of policies that have failed to specifically address a healthy and sustainable economy and provide for the needs of its people. It is my opinion that simply changing the leader of the Liberal party is not going to change the policies that have hurt us so badly.”

Larry Day, Cariboo-Chilcotin NDP Constituency Association vice-president, says it’s important the candidates hear from the people of the Cariboo Chilcotin.

“We think Williams Lake and the area is a very important area for the simple reason that the Liberals have ignored us and we have suffered under their leadership,” Day says. The debate will be moderated by Dave Zirnhelt and Richard Vollo.
