Several mudslides overnight have closed a 35-kilometre stretch of Highway 99 north of Lillooet until further notice.
The Ministry of Transportation reports two major slides and 10 to 12 smaller slides came down in various locations through a 10 to 12 kilometre section of the highway.
The slides were the result of an intense storm cycle that went through the area about 10 p.m. Tuesday night.
There are no detours around the site but traffic control people are on site to inform the public about the closure and potential alternate routes.
There are no reports of injuries, but several vehicles were stuck between the slides. Crews were able to get everybody out safely overnight, but had to leave the trapped vehicles along the highway.
The ministry's Drive BC site said the highway remains shut down in both directions from Lillooet to 35 kilometres north of the community.
There are no local detours available. The alternate route to Lillooet is via Highway 12 to Lytton and Highway 1 to Cache Creek.
There are also reports that mud and debris crashed into some cabins around Pavillion Lake.
