I approach this new post with a combination of excitement and apprehension. Excitement because I love to write about the place I call home. Apprehension because I’ve only lived in Williams Lake since the end of August and have lots to learn.
I’ve worked as a journalist since 2000, beginning as an arts reporter for the Prince Rupert Daily News. From arts and culture I moved to writing all types of newspaper stories, with the exclusion of sports, which is a lucky thing for the readers.
When the Daily News was closed down in July 2010 I began covering city hall for Black Press’s Prince Rupert Northern View. It was fun to focus on one beat for a change and it kept me active as a writer.
For seven years I also worked part time at the Prince Rupert City & Regional Archives as an assistant to the archivist and was involved with the arts council there, heading public art projects and enjoying the opportunity to work with artists of all ages.
Aside from work, I’m the mother of six children, ranging from 12 to 26. But my husband Matthew and I have moved here with only two so life is much different.
I was born in Alert Bay, raised in Nelson, and graduated from the University of Winnipeg with a degree in English and History.
Lamb-Yorski is our two names put together. Mine was Lamb, Matthew was Yorski. Most people think that’s unique although my grandmother, bless her soul, wasn’t impressed and said it sounded like “chicken terriyaki.”
As I embark on this one-year position while Robyn Chambers is on maternity leave, I encourage readers to call me up and put me straight if need be. I’m here to learn and am grateful for the opportunity to work at the Tribune.
