The search for Miss B.C. 2011 has now begun and organizers are scouring the province for contestants.

“We are especially targeting people from Williams Lake, one of whom will become the next Miss B.C. Interior, and one of whom may become the next Miss B.C.,” says contest spokesperson Darren Storsley.

The Miss B.C. pageant is a program for young women to learn new skills while developing their self-esteem.

From workshops on self defence to health and fitness, the contestants will also go through public speaking training and are encouraged to hold a charity fundraiser in their community.

Last year’s Miss B.C. pageant raised more than $32,000 for the Cops for Cancer charity.

Miss BC 2010 Tara Teng has been doing amazing work with her title, including organizing B.C.’s very first Freedom Week to bring awareness to the issue of human trafficking, meeting with Prime Minister Stephen Harper, and heading to Montreal where she won the title of Miss Canada.
