Best-selling author and activist Maude Barlow will be in Williams Lake Monday, April 10 at the Gibraltar Room beginning at 7 p.m.

Barlow is on a tour with her latest book, Boiling Point: Government Neglect, Corporate Abuse and Canada’s Water Crisis.

The Council of Canadians Williams Lake chapter is hosting the event, and have also invited former Xeni Gwet’in Chief Marilyn Baptiste and Water Wise educator Jenny Howell to make presentations as well.

“It will be an opportunity to discuss B.C.’s water crisis and the upcoming election,” said chapter member John Dressler.

“Marilyn will talk about water issues in her traditional territory and Jenny will talk about water issues in Williams Lake,” Dressler said.

Dressler said he first met Barlow at a Council of Canadians national convention a few years ago.

“I have read her book and in it she continues her international interest that water is becoming a scarcity,” he said.

Barlow will be in Comox on April 6, Nanaimo on April 7 and Victoria on April 8 before coming to the lakecity.

She is the presently the chair of the Council of Canadians and was one of its original founding members along with people like Margaret Atwood, Pierre Berton, David Suzuki and Mel Hurtig, Dressler added.

Dressler said the Williams Lake chapter recently celebrated its 10th anniversary in January.
