A hunter sustained serious injuries after being hit by a ricocheting bullet Monday.
The Alexis Creek RCMP say the incident happened at about 3:30 p.m., near the south end of Farwell Canyon Road. A group of hunters had been attempting to shoot a moose in the Klocut Lake area. One of the hunters was slightly ahead of the group and came back to the group holding his lower left abdomen, stating “I’m hit.”
The rest of the group quickly transported the victim to a nearby ranch. Just prior to being airlifted to Kamloops Regional Hospital by Emergency Health Services, the victim stated he shot at something and was then hit by the ricochet of the bullet. Emergency surgery was performed and the victim, still in serious condition, is recovering after the removal of a bullet fragment. Alexis Creek RCMP are investigating the incident deemed to be an accident.
