A 54-year-old man was assaulted late Wednesday night on Sixth Avenue South in Williams Lake.
Just before midnight, the Williams Lake RCMP were called in relation to an assault in progress.
A witness or witnesses reported two males assaulting a lone male on the street, a short distance away from Oliver Street.
Before the witness completed the call, the two suspects fled, leaving the victim laying on Sixth Avenue South.
The man was taken to Cariboo Memorial Hospital for treatment of his injuries sustained from what police say was an unprovoked attacked.
Police say the injuries were serious but are not believed to be life threatening.
