Williams Lake RCMP leave the government building on Borland Street Friday. Police were called in to assist the BC Sheriffs Office after a man uttered threats in the courthouse lobby.

A man was arrested last Friday in Williams Lake for uttering  threats inside the government building that houses the courthouse.

The Williams Lake RCMP were called at about 12:10 p.m. on Aug. 19 by the BC Sheriffs office after the male exited the courthouse, threatening to go home, return with a gun and shoot everyone, said Staff Sgt. Del Byron.

"Police attended, got statements from witnesses who had dealt with this male in the courthouse for a traffic issue," Byron said. "Out of frustration he uttered a threat in the lobby of the courthouse."

Working with the BC Sheriffs office, police cleared the building, did a subsequent search to ensure the building was clear of any firearms or explosives.

The male is in cells at the RCMP detachment awaiting an appearance in court, Byron said.
