Lakecity weekend chock-full of events

If there was ever a weekend to stay busy in Williams Lake it is this one.

Things kick off Friday when Lake City Secondary hosts its annual fine arts festival from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Williams Lake campus.

Local and visiting Shriners — here for their BC-Yukon Spring Ceremonial — will put on a parade Saturday morning beginning at 10 a.m. departing on Third Avenue North by Sacred Heart Church.

The parade will culminate at Boitanio Park where the Shriners will help out with the annual Children’s Festival taking place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Also Saturday, a block from the park the Cariboo Potters are holding their spring sale from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Central Cariboo Arts Centre,  and Community Corner is celebrating its sixth anniversary at Third and Oliver Street from 10 a.m. to 2  p.m.

On Saturday and Sunday motocross riders from all over B.C. will compete at the Williams Lake Dirt Riders Association track on Bond Lake Road for the MCQMX Series.

And for those ready from some race car  action, Thunder Mountain Speedway hosts its season opener Saturday. The qualifier revs up at 4 p.m, with racing underway at 5 p.m.

The Williams Lake Rustlers Rugby club will play their season opener Saturday against Terrace. Game time is 5 p.m. at Ottoman Drive.

The Lakers Car Club hosts its 22nd annual Spring Roundup. Saturday there’s the roundup poker run, cruise and dinner and on Sunday the club’s Show and Shine is on Third Avenue downtown with gates opening at 10 a.m.

Sunday, the Williams Lake Puddle Pounders host a roller derby event at the Cariboo Memorial Recreation Complex in the small rink. Doors open at 3 p.m. and the bout starts at 4 p.m.
