A McLeese Lake couple said they recently discovered that an estimated $15,000-plus worth of jewelry was stolen from their house.

Community liaison Vicky Ortiz said the couple wanted to stay anonymous and encourage anyone with information to share it with the police.

“When they got home it looked like the main floor seemed untouched but all the jewelry was gone,” Ortiz said, noting it’s the second time the couple’s home has been broken into.

“The first time was last fall when someone broke into their garage. They were home at the time.”

Ortiz said in June 2018 members of the community met with Williams Lake manager of community safety Dave Dickson and Insp. Jeff Pelley, Officer in Charge of the Williams Lake RCMP, to explore developing a rural crime watch program.

“Nothing has really happened since the meeting but every Monday Dave Dickson sends me a crime report of things in our area and if I have anything to send to him I put it in an e-mail,” she said.“Other than this recent theft of jewelry, I really haven’t heard of anything else.”

Williams Lake RCMP Staff Sgt. Del Byron confirmed Tuesday that police were investigating the theft.
