Mike Jacobson has added his name to a long list of 13 other candidates seeking a seat at the council table.

Jacobson, who hasn’t run for a municipal position before, announced in a press release he would campaign on, “positive economic growth, improving the city’s existing lifestyle including recreation services for families and seniors and a better relationship with community associations and volunteer groups and encouraging a more open-door policy at city hall.”

He indicated his desire to get involved in municipal politics is as a result of wanting to give young families an opportunity to live and work in Williams Lake and to not have to move to other provinces.

“I think I can make a difference,” he said.

“I’ve got good business experience and a good history in terms of making sound financial decisions and can bring that to the council table.”

Jacobson thinks maintaining and supporting local business and encouraging new development are areas where he can contribute. Further, he identifies recreation facilities in the community as important.

“The pool is a hot topic right now. That’s something I would be very interested in. That does effect young families in our community,” he said.

“We have to make some good decisions there and have some services in the future that they can use and enjoy.”
