The Independent Investigations Office is looking for a witness to a police incident in Williams Lake.

At approximately 7:50 p.m. on Sunday, June 19, 2016, police responded to a complaint of a male drinking in public at a bus stop on Seventh Avenue North in Williams Lake, said Marten Youssef, director of public engagement and policy with the IIO.

“Officers approached the male and during his arrest, the male suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital,” Youssef said.

The IIO was notified and is investigating the matter.

There was a civilian witness at the bus stop at the time of the arrest who the IIO is seeking to interview.

The IIO is asking the witness of this incident to contact the IIO toll-free witness line at 1-855-446-8477.

North District RCMP Cpl. Dave Tyreman said the RCMP do not comment on IIO investigations.

The IIO is an independent civilian oversight agency of the police in B.C. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death.
