Highway 97 collision claims one

After a logging truck accident north of Quesnel, one man is dead.

Around 11 a.m. Tuesday RCMP and emergency personnel responded to a collision north of the Cottonwood River bridge on Highway 97.

A grey Silverado was exiting a roadside pullout, attempting to turn south towards Quesnel when it was struck by a loaded northbound Kenworth logging truck.

Damage to both vehicles was extensive and the debris, including a large number of logs, covered portions of the highway.

The highway was closed for approximately six hours.

The deceased, a 73-year-old male from Saskatchewan, succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The driver of the logging sustained minor injuries.
