The Paradise Cinema and Salvation Army are teaming up to help the food bank. On Tuesdays, through the month of October during any show, the cinema will accept three non-perishable food items in exchange for $3 off the price of movie admission.
For those who do not bring non-perishable items the cinema will donate $3 for each patron to the Salvation Army. David Hothi, the owner of Paradise Cinema in Williams Lake and Quesnel (which is also running the fundraiser), thinks this is a good way to help local food banks replenish their supply at a time when their stocks may be low.
Hothi says he had to get the Salvation Army on board as well as the film companies who have to approve the campaign as it has a direct bearing on their revenue.
Hothi explains that film companies get a percentage of every dollar of ticket sales so they have an interest in campaigns such as this.
“We’ve been working on this for the past two months trying to get everybody on board,” he says.
“We’re hoping to fill up the food bank and perhaps give them a little bit of cash to purchase food. If it’s successful we’ll make it an event every year.”
