Sadly, this is the scene that greeted Walt and Carol Foster (Sand Creek Ranch) in their home ranch valley near Tatla Lake upon their return from an overnight trip to Williams Lake on Friday/Saturday, Sept. 23 and 24. This hayfield is situated near the west branch of the Homathko River (Mosley Creek). About 80 large round bales are floating like mini-islands in the floodwater, just baled recently as the Fosters had to wait out the rainy summer to get the weather to co-operate so they could make good quality hay. This flood event is the third such incident in a year for this ranching operation which also suffered in last September’s flood from the rains and this summer’s flooding from heavy winter snowfall, fall floods, and continuous summer rains.
