Government authorizes Mount Polley Mine to extract additional one million tonnes of ore

Mount Polley Mine has been granted an amendment to its restricted operations permit which will see the company increase production.

Mount Polley Mine has been granted an amendment to its restricted operations permit which will allow the mine to extract an additional one million tonnes of ore using the Springer Pit to manage the tailings.

The change has been authorized by the statutory decision-makers with the Ministry of Energy and Mines and the Ministry of Environment, who issued a press release regarding the increase Friday afternoon.

The permit amendments will increase the mine's allowable production level from four million tonnes to five million tonnes of ore, and allow the mine to continue restricted operations while its application to return to full production is under review.

Spokespersons from Imperial Metals and the Ministry of Energy and Mines and the Ministry of Environment did not return calls for comment by end of day Friday regarding the matter.
