Funds approved for signal

ICBC has approved $11,200 in funding for the City’s road improvement program to upgrade the traffic signal at Third Avenue and Oliver Street.

ICBC has approved $11,200 in funding for the City’s road improvement program to upgrade the traffic signal at Third Avenue and Oliver Street.

The signal upgrade was completed last month.

As with the upgraded traffic lights at Second Avenue and Oliver Street, a voice feature informs pedestrians when it is safe to cross the street, and which street is safe to cross.

The system is activated by pressing the buttons on the poles at the corners of the intersections. The upgrade also includes efficient LED lights, cameras, and street lights at all four corners.

“Safety for both motorists and pedestrians is a top priority in the downtown core, and these signal upgrades help us create safe intersections,” says general manager of planning and operations Geoff Goodall.

“We’re happy to have this funding from ICBC toward the cost of the project.”
