Fire centre urges caution with warm weather back

With the return of warmer temperatures forecasted for the weekend, the Cariboo Fire Centre is encouraging the public to be careful.

With the return of warmer temperatures forecasted for the upcoming weekend, the Cariboo Fire Centre is encouraging the public to be careful with fires.

“We do expect it to be warm and dry this weekend,” said fire information officer Natasha Broznitsky Thursday as she encouraged the public to report any wildfires, burning violations and unattended campfires.

There have been three lightning-caused fires since Monday, she said.

By Thursday one was already out, the other was in the patrol stage meaning  the fire activity was very quiet and the crews were looking for any remaining hot spots and smoke.

The third was a small 0.4 ha fire burning in the Quesnel Lake area.

“Today, we have seven firefighters and one helicopter on that fire,” Broznitsky said of the Quesnel Lake area fire.

“Other than that there is not a whole lot going on.”

To report a fire call 1-888-663-5555 or *5555 on a cell phone.
