Fight leads to arrests

Police arrested three men following a fight involving knives and bear spray at the corner of Comer Street and Second Avenue in Williams Lake early Saturday afternoon.

Police arrested three men following a fight involving knives and bear spray at the corner of Comer Street and Second Avenue in Williams Lake early Saturday afternoon.

The Williams Lake RCMP also seized two knives.

Two of the men were released to appear in court at a later date, and the third man, who had a warrant for his arrest, has been held in custody on an unrelated matter. Police say it appears at this time to have been a spontaneous fight between two groups of young men and women. It doesn’t appear to have been a random attack, say the RCMP who continue to investigate.

“This incident appears to have involved individuals who have been identified as being involved in youth gang activities and violence in the area and resulted when one group came across members from the other rival group,” the Williams Lake RCMP say in a news release.

No one was seriously injured.
