A two-vehicle collision on Highway 97 near 70 Mile House Tuesday has claimed one life.

At approximately 8:15 a.m. on Jan. 19, Clinton RCMP and emergency responders were dispatched to the collision.

"RCMP can confirm the collision involved two vehicles on a four lane roadway where one vehicle crossed over and collided with the other vehicle," said Sgt. Mike Pears, Operations NCO Central Interior Traffic Services Kamloops in a press release. "There was one occupant in each vehicle. The deceased was in the northbound vehicle that crossed over into the path of the southbound vehicle."

The driver of the southbound vehicle was transported to hospital and the person’s condition is unknown, police said.

RCMP members from Clinton and 100 Mile House remain at the  scene and a collision re-constructionist from Kamloops and an Ashcroft Traffic Services investigator are currently en route.

There is a local detour around the collision scene for some traffic, but the highway will likely be closed for a few hours while the re-constructionist examines the scene.
