Cariboo Chilcotin Traffic Services responded to a two vehicle crash on Highway 97 just south of Ten Mile Lake at 9:18 Friday March 15.

Upon arriving on scene, Emergency Service Personnel found that a passenger in one of the vehicles was deceased, the RCMP said in a press release.

"Although it is early in the investigation, police have determined that a tow truck working in the area on an unrelated matter, resulted in the south bound traffic coming to a stop," the RCMP said.

"One of the vehicles in this line of south bound traffic pulled out into the north bound lane in an attempt to continue south. This resulted in a head on collision with a north bound pickup. A passenger in the southbound vehicle succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash."

At this time causal factors are not known, however Cariboo Chilcotin Traffic, North District Collision Analyst, and the BC Coroners Service continue to investigate.

The highway is closed to all traffic in both directions and there is no route around the scene.

Weather and road conditions are less then desirable, and the RCMP are asking the public to drive for the conditions of the road.

Anyone who may have witnessed this crash, or has any information pertaining to the collision are asked to call the RCMP or Crime stoppers.
