For acclaimed Area D director Deb Bischoff the goals of the next term are numerous.

Bischoff says she’d like to finish up projects she’s started over this last term that include improving lines of communication with other agencies, especially as they relate to emergency services for Area D residents.

That would include advocating for the establishment of Internet services beyond the dial-up service that’s currently offered. Bischoff believes that service could be supplemented by a strengthened CBC signal in the Area D corridor.

“On parts of the highway the CBC signal is very choppy. CBC is a conduit to get communication out,” she says.

Bischoff says another reason why she chose to run is to continue a review of CRD services that Area D residents pay for.

She adds she would like to see each tax category itemized on CRD residents property tax bills.

In pursuing both, Bishoff says the ultimate goal is to have residents pay for only the services they want and to reduce Area D residents’ tax bills.

“We want to identify what the funding is; is it working well and if not what can be done? Should it be tweaked or purged?” she says.

“I don’t think people have the patience to have their taxpayer dollars wasted.”

Bishoff suggests she’s considering a withdrawal of Area D from the Central Cariboo Joint Committee.

That aside, Bischoff says her other motiviation is: “I love working with people. I love it when they identify something the community needs and then put that plan together to do it.”
