CRD to meet with property owners impacted by Puntzi Lake wildfire

The Cariboo Regional District's Emergency Operation Centre will meet with property owners impacted Puntzi Lake wildfire.

People who lost property in the Puntzi Lake wildfire will see videos and photos of the damage at a closed meeting in Redstone this afternoon, said Cariboo Regional District Chair Al Richmond.

“The meeting is only for those who have lost structures,” Richmond said Saturday morning from the CRD’s emergency operation centre in Williams Lake, noting some property owners probably have insurance, but that’s a question that falls outside of the CRD’s mandate.

Last evening the CRD confirmed four properties have been impacted by the now estimated to be 2,200 hectare fire which was discovered Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. about 130 kilometres west of Williams Lake.

“There are two permanent residences, one seasonal residence and a lodge impacted,” Richmond said. “We know there are about 18 or so buildings burnt overall.”

Richmond also said he was awaiting information on the fire’s activity overnight and anticipating the boundary’s of the fire will be adjusted later this morning.

As of Saturday morning the Cariboo Fire Centre reported the fire had grown on the eastern flank. Tankers were brought in to help protect structures.

A crew remained overnight to continue suppression.

Today’s objective will be to build new containment lines on the east side of the fire and structural protection units will continue to be established on the effected properties.
