Wrestling Day has been proclaimed for Jan. 2, 2017 in Williams Lake by city council.
Each year city council declares the day a public municipal holiday.
It continues to be something that is totally unique to the lakecity.
Chevron gets fuel contract
Chevron Canada Ltd. has received the 2017 contract to provide the city with unleaded gasoline and diesel for the tendered price of $0.9276 per litre for unleaded and $0.9303 per litre for diesel for a total of $129,178.
Deer management
City council has set aside $3,000 in the 2017 budget for deer management education in Williams Lake.
“The focus is to distribute educational information to make people aware of ways to deer proof properties,” said director of municipal services Gary Muraca.
Increases in cemetery fees and update of bylaws
Council reconsidered and adopted an increase in fees for the cemetery and an update to the cemetery bylaw.
It will be the first time the fees and bylaw have been updated since 2009.
The Museum requests more funding
Council received a request from the Museum of the Cariboo Chilcotin for an increase in fee-for-service funding.
During the last six years the museum has received $32,425 annually.
The request is to increase it to $79,000 to cover the “real” costs of operations, allowing the museum to retain a qualified professional curator, as well as an additional part-time assistant.
The request was accepted in principle and referred to the next Central Cariboo City of Williams Lake Joint Committee meeting for consideration as part of the Central Cariboo Arts and Culture Function.
Proposed right of way agreement
A proposed right of way agreement at the entrance road to 351 and 375 Mandarino Place will be the subject of an upcoming public meeting.
The proponent Westridge Ventures will be asked to invite Pushor Mitchell to participate in the meeting to provide more details.
Zoning applications considered
A zoning amendment application by Golden Life Construction, on behalf of Pioneer Family Land Partnership, to change the zoning of a lot adjacent to Prosperity Way shopping centre from acreage reserve to comprehensive development was given first reading.
If adopted, the rezoning would enable the applicant to develop a proposed senior home at the location.
The application will now go to the transportation ministry for approval and come back for a public hearing and further consideration.
A zoning amendment application by the owner of the vacant Slumber Lodge from highway commercial to low density multiple family residential was received by council.
Staff will now issue notices of the application and a public hearing to surrounding property owners and tenants within a 100-metre radius of the property.
