Cariboo residents are one step closer to having a “shovel-ready” plan for an indoor turf facility in Williams Lake.  On Tuesday council awarded the development of a concept and business plan for a turf facility to CEI Architecture for the cost of $53, 250 plus HST.

At the meeting it was emphasized that the project has not been approved; rather, the idea is to have a plan in place for the facility should some funding become available in the future.

“We wanted to have a game plan ready,” said councillor and City liaison to the Central Cariboo Joint Committee Surinderpal Rathor. “Nothing’s going ahead; it’s all getting the business plan done.”  Rathor noted CEI would be tasked with considering site location, cost to build, building plan and design, as well as establishing a business plan that would include facility operation. The original preferred location for the facility was Comer Park.

The decisions on the facility and the funding are made jointly by the City and the Cariboo Regional District. The business plan development will cost a total of $59,640.
