City seeks public input on OCP draft

The City has released the draft of the Official Community Plan and is seeking public input.

The City has released the draft of the Official Community Plan and is seeking public input.

At Tuesday’s meeting, council announced that after a two-year planning process that included public events, comments, community, staff and council workshops, it was ready to take the OCP public.

An OCP serves as a foundation for all policies, regulations and decisions pertaining to land use and development in a municipality. It provides guidance for economic, environmental, physical design and development and social considerations.

As a part of this process, in the summer of 2010, council approved the Imagine Our Future — Integrated Community Sustainability Plan, a document designed to guide the development of City policies, plans, projects and procedures. These will be incorporated into the OCP to “ensure land-use planning is aligned with the long-term vision of the community.”

The OCP is available at www.imagineourfu ture.ca or from City communications co-ordinator Ken MacInnis at 250-392-8488.

Residents can also watch for discussions on the City’s Facebook page.

Staff will also be out at various locations in the community in the next few months.

Council authorizes Arts and Culture

Society contract

Council authorized the Cariboo Regional District to sign the service delivery agreement with the Central Cariboo Arts and Culture Society.

The agreement has a term of five years and provides $70,000 annually for services including operating as a coordinating resource for arts and culture organizations and activities; delivering an accountable and effective grant program; and working to establish and implement a long-term vision for arts and culture as an advocate for the sector and demonstrating leadership for improvement and growth.

The $70,000 in funding is in addition to and separate from $20,000 provided the by the Central Cariboo Arts and Culture function for management and operation of the arts centre.

Because the Service Delivery Agreement was recommended the Central Cariboo/City of Williams Lake Joint Committee, both the City and the Cariboo Regional District are required to authorize the signing of the agreement.
