City of Williams lake embraces social media

People interested in viewing the recent inaugural speeches of Williams Lake city council can watch the videos on YouTube.

People interested in viewing the recent inaugural speeches of the Williams Lake mayor, council and junior council can view them firsthand on the Internet after the City uploaded eight videos on YouTube last week.

In a press release issued by the City, Coun. Geoff Bourdon, chair of the General Governance Committee, said using videos will allow the council to communicate more effectively and offer more exposure of the activities of council members and the City.

“I’m excited about this next step the City is taking to embrace social media,” Bourdon said.

In September, the City launched a Twitter feed and a Facebook page and plans to feature media releases, notices of upcoming meetings of council, and other information updates.

Citizens wanting to make requests to council, however, cannot do so through social media channels, but will have to go through the regular channels of writing letters, e-mailing or phoning.
