City, CRD to address rural fire protection

The City and the Cariboo Regional District are working to address options for equitable distribution of taxation for rural fire protection.

The City and the Cariboo Regional District are working to address options for equitable distribution of taxation for rural fire protection.

Central Joint Committee co-chairs mayor Kerry Cook and CRD Electoral Area F director Joan Sorley made that announcement Wednesday.

“The rural areas outside the City boundaries are currently covered by three separate fire protection agreements which expire in 2012,” Cook says. “Our goal is to have equal taxation distribution for all residents served by the Williams Lake Fire Department.”

“We are working together to find long-term solutions,” Sorley says. “The goal is to have a fair system for all properties that benefit from the new fire hall and the City’s fire department.”
