At its meeting May 21, city council received the 2012 audited financial statements, prepared by PMT Chartered Accountants.

"We got a clean audit," said Coun. Ivan Bonnell, a member of the finance committee.

"There were no surprises with the audit itself."

The auditors made some minor recommendations to improve internal systems which the city will address, it said in a press release, adding the auditors also confirmed that recommendations made in 2012 have been addressed.

"Last year we had about seven items on the list to deal with and this year there were just a few recommendations," Bonnell said.

Coun. Geoff Bourdon, also a member of the finance committee, said when the committee met with PMT one of the focuses was to try and make the statements easier to understand.

"There was also minor tweaking of the time frame and our interaction in that process as a finance committee. A lot of those tweaks will be put in place for next year" Bourdon said.

Annual financial statements for a fiscal year must be prepared by the financial officer and presented to council for its acceptance.
