Christmas hamper and toy registration begins Monday

The Salvation Army will start registering people in need for its annual Christmas hamper and toy program.

Christmas hampers and toys for kids are once again available for residents of Williams Lake and surrounding communities where no hamper program is in operation, says Salvation Army Capt. Claudia Kadonaga.

Families can pre-register for hampers starting Monday, Nov.  14 through to Friday, Dec. 16.

Food bank clients currently registered on the food program, with an updated client needs assessment completed within the past three months, may apply for Christmas hampers during their regular visits at the food bank.

Households that are registered with the food bank and do not have an updated needs assessment completed  within the past three months will need to  bring updated financial documentation and identification for all members in the household when applying for a Christmas hamper, Kadonaga says.

Anyone who feels that they need a Christmas hamper this year is  invited to apply.

The food bank is open Monday to Friday between the hours of 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 and 3:30 p.m. at 272 Borland St.

When applying for a hamper please bring documentation for all sources of household income and the basic living expenses, proof of address, as well as a piece of identification for each individual living in the household.

The food bank will then be able to proceed with a needs assessment to determine eligibility.

Working individuals who are unable to get to the food bank during regular work hours may make arrangement with a friend or family member to apply on their behalf ensuring that a note along with needed documentation are presented.

Christmas hamper distribution will be done this year from the Salvation Army soup kitchen dining room at 272 Borland Dec. 19 to Dec. 22.
