Effective at noon on Wednesday, July 16, the Cariboo Fire Centre will expand its campfire prohibition across the entire Cariboo Fire Centre.
This prohibition will remain in place until Sept. 30, 2014, or until the public is informed otherwise.
This step is being taken to help prevent human-caused wildfires and protect public safety, the CFC noted in a bulletin Tuesday evening.
The fire danger rating is currently “high” throughout the Cariboo Fire Centre, with some areas rated “extreme”.
Joining with the CFC, the City of Williams Lake has also issued a ban on open fires.
On Wednesday morning the city said as of noon it is prohibiting all campfires and backyard burning within city limits until further notice.
The prohibition applies to all open air fires in Fire Protection Bylaw 2189: Outdoor cooking fires that do not use natural gas or propane and fire pits.
