By-election may be in the cards for SD 27 trustee

School District 27 Board of Trustees are scheduled to discuss the vacancy of Zone 7 Trustee Joyce Cooper at its Tuesday, Oct. 18 meeting.

School District 27 Board of Trustees are scheduled to discuss the vacancy of Zone 7 Trustee Joyce Cooper at its Tuesday, Oct. 18 meeting.

Cooper, who represents the Chilcotin for the district, has been absent from board meetings since May 31 and, according to legislation, is therefore disqualified from holding office unit the next general school election, stated the board's Oct. 18 agenda.

It is expected that trustees wi hold a vote on a motion to call a special open meeting on Nov. 18 at 6:30 pm for the purpose of appointing a Chief Election Officer for the by-election for trustee in Zone 7.

At the request of Trustee Brice O'Neill, the board will also vote to revise policy on trustee renumeration to reflect a loss of renumeration for trustees who are absent from regular open and closed meetings of the Board, other than for illness, stated the agenda.
