Bright Red Bookshelves get kids reading

Do children read books for fun? The Bright Red Bookshelf program would say yes to that question.

Do children read books for fun? The Bright Red Bookshelf program would say yes to that question.

Between 200 and 300 books are circulated per week to children in the city through the bookshelves. Children can read the books at the Bright Red Bookshelf locations or take a book home to enjoy with the family.

The Cariboo Chilcotin Partners for Literacy started this program in 2009 and now has nine bookshelves at the following locations:  Atwood Clinic, Boitanio Mall, Cariboo Eye Care Clinic, Child Development Centre, Ministry of Children and Families, the government building, the arena and pool, and the Williams Lake Gymnastics Club.

The Bright Red Bookshelf program relies on donations of gently used children’s books. If you have children’s books to donate contact Claire Schreiner at 250-398-4173 or drop off books at the Community Living Association on Fourth Avenue across from Safeway.
