UPDATE: Downed lines spark fire near 108 Mile Ranch

Power is now estimated to be restored at 3:00 a.m.

Power is out in the 108 Mile Ranch due to a tree falling across hydro lines and starting a fire.

BC Hydro is onsite working to restore power to 1,670 customers. The affected area goes from north of 100 Mile House to north of Lac La Hache and east including Gateway.

According to the latest update on the BC Hydro site, the estimated time power should be restored is now 3:00 a.m.

The 108 Mile Ranch Volunteer Fire Department responded to the fire but was unable to fight it until BC Hydro made sure the power was off to the downed lines.

The fire status has been updated to being held under current conditions and is estimated at 0.2 hectares in size.

“There are personnel from the fire departments and BCWS firefighters are on site,” said Jessica Mack, fire information officer for the Cariboo Fire Centre. “Traffic control has been requested due to the wildfire being adjacent to Highway 97 and to ensure the safety of first responders and motorists travelling.”

More to come.
