Bear spray, assault and suspected arson highlighted in RCMP report of weekend calls.
June 21
An RCMP officer patrolling on Second Avenue North at 2:20 a.m. saw a male riding a bicycle without a helmet. When he approached the male and asked him to stop, the male fled after the officer told him he was under arrest.
While the male was riding the officer saw him drop a metal can which he later identified as bear spray. After a brief foot chase the male was taken into custody and faces charges of obstruction, possession of a dangerous weapon and breach of conditions.
RCMP responded to a complaint that a male had been jumped by two unknown males in Boitanio Park while walking to work at around 2:51 a.m. The victim did not sustain any injuries and the matter is still under investigation.
RCMP received a complaint from a resident in the 4100 block of Horsefly Road at 5:38 p.m. that his residence was broken into between June 17 and June 18th.
A grey 2008 Mazda Miata, computers and other valuables were stolen from the residence. The RCMP are asking anyone with knowledge of this event to call the Williams Lake RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
At 6:18 p.m. RCMP responded to an ATV accident several kilometres south of Russet Bluff. A 52-year-old male was reported injured, and was in and out of consciousness.
His friend called 911, and because of the remote location, Search and Rescue and a helicopter were called in to assist. The injured driver was located and airlifted out. He is now in stable condition and in the hospital in Kamloops for further treatment.
June 22
The RCMP and Williams Lake fire department responded to a vehicle fire in the back alley of Lakeview Drive at 2:40 a.m.. When crews arrived two vehicles were fully engulfed in flames which resulted in collateral damage to other cars parked nearby. Arson is suspected and the RCMP are asking anyone with knowledge of this event to call the Williams Lake RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
June 23
RCMP were dispatched to a break and enter to a residence on Fifth Avenue South. The homeowner stated a male came to his house and demanded money, forced his way into his house, assaulted the homeowner and made off with a small amount of money.
The suspect was described as a Caucasian male with a short scruffy beard wearing a black mask over his face and a grey shirt or jacket.
The victim attended the Cariboo Memorial Hospital for treatment to his injuries — three broken fingers, cuts, scrapes and two broken teeth — before being released. RCMP are asking anyone with knowledge of this event to call the Williams Lake RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
