Barr won’t be running for council

Tom Barr is calling it a day.

Tom Barr is calling it a day.

In announcing his decision the three-term councillor said, “There comes a time in your life when you think you have to make a change and that’s what I’m doing.”

Barr was a Williams Lake councillor back in the late 1970s.

He cited keeping spending under control, working through the Walmart development and the new fire hall as among some of his accomplishments. And he noted the challenges going forward included finding money to upgrade City infrastructure, and keeping unnecessary spending in check.

Barr was complimentary of the current slate of mayoral candidates— two of whom he’s worked with on council.

“Mayor (Kerry) Cook I think has done a good job. Scott Nelson when he was mayor did an excellent job.” Barr noted he’d never worked with Walt Cobb but said he too had experience.
