Award for environmental achievement

Thanks to a new partnership between Earth Day Canada and Mill Street Brewery, Canadian small businesses pushing the green envelope are eligible to win the newly created Hometown Heroes Small Business Award.

The winner will be presented the award at Earth Day Canada’s annual gala on June 8 in Toronto in front of 500 business and environmental leaders and will have an all-expenses paid trip to attend any professional development opportunity in Canada focused on environmental sustainability or conservation.

“We saw what Mill Street had done to reduce the impact of their business internally and externally, and saw an opportunity to work together to recognize and celebrate businesses taking similar initiatives,” said Jed Goldberg, president of Earth Day Canada. “We’re really excited to see what the Canadian small business sector is doing to green their operations and product offerings.”

For Mill Street, the partnership gives it the opportunity to help support and drive the environmental movement, something the North American Craft Brewers have been at the forefront of since the 1980s.

“It’s encouraging to see Canadians reducing their environmental impact,” said Steve Abrams, co–founder of Mill Street Brewery. “We feel it’s important to recognize outstanding achievement.”

Complementing the small business award, Earth Day Canada recognizes individuals, community groups and not-for-profits as part of the Hometown Heroes Award program.
