GRIGG, Janet Frances

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Janet Frances Grigg on March 17, 2008 in Victoria, BC, at the age of 81. Janet was born on June 6, 1926 in Yeovil, Somerset, England to Charles and Kathleen Longman. Janet grew up in Swindon, Wiltshire, trained as a teacher at Crewe College, where she specialized in horticulture, and taught at Dartford, Kent. She immigrated to Chilliwack, BC in 1948, where she met and married Weldon Grigg in 1949 and together raised a family of five. The family moved to Cowichan Bay, BC, in 1969 and Janet taught school in the area. Janet and Weldon founded GroWell Potting Soil, retired to Victoria in 1984 and travelled extensively in their later years. Janet is survived by her loving husband Weldon, and her five children – Sandra, Hazel, Murray (Jenny), Neville (Kimberly), and Laurence (Kathy). She also leaves six grandchildren – Lance, Neil, Katrina, Liam, Sierra and Logan – and two sisters, Dorothy Sweet and Ruth Longman. She was predeceased by her older sister Winifred in 2000. Janet was a very determined woman with a wonderful, caring heart. She had a lifetime love of gardening, from her wartime “Dig for Victory” garden to her present-day potted plants. Janet was always loved by her family and friends, and will be remembered for her love, support and strong Christian faith.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 21, at 3:00 pm at Oaklands Chapel, 2736 Fernwood Road, Victoria, followed by refreshments. In lieu of flowers, Janet and Weldon encourage support of the Baja Orphanage (www.FFHM.org). Donations may be made through Oaklands Chapel. The family contact is neville@teanook.ca
