All-candidate forums planned for Williams Lake area

In the coming weeks voters in the Williams Lake area will have some formal opportunities to hear from the political candidates.

In the coming weeks voters in the Williams Lake area will have some formal opportunities to hear from the political candidates running in both the Cariboo North and Cariboo Chilcotin ridings.

As of April 22, there are three candidates running in Cariboo North and four candidates running in Cariboo Chilcotin.

Two all-candidates forums are being held Saturday April 27 in Williams Lake.

Organizer Ross McCoubrey said both will take place at Williams Lake Secondary School.

The first one is at 1 p.m. sponsored by the Williams Lake Seniors Advisory Council. The second one is at 7 p.m. sponsored by the Williams Lake Chapter of the Council of Canadians and the BC Northern Real Estate Board.

“Since the city is split into two ridings — Cariboo North and Cariboo Chilcotin — we have invited  the candidates from both ridings,” McCoubrey said.

On May 1, the Williams Lake and District Chamber of Commerce and Northern Real Estate Board will host an all candidates assembly, where voters can meet candidates one-on-one, at the Tourism Discovery Centre, from 6 to 8 p.m.

An all candidates forum will also be held May 7 at Williams Lake Secondary School for students from both secondary schools.

“It will start at 11:15 a.m. in the commons area,” said organizer Columneetza secondary school teacher Shannon Rerie.

“We will follow it up with a student vote at each school on May 10.”
