Police recovered a stolen car in 140 Mile House after receiving a call from a resident reporting a suspicious vehicle.
The vehicle was described as a mid 1990s brown Toyota Camry, which the caller thought may have been related to the Amber Alert vehicle believed to be involved in a missing child case in Sparwood.
Staff Sgt. Warren Brown, detachment commander at the Williams Lake RCMP, says the caller had spotted people sleeping in the car.
After receiving the call, about half a dozen RCMP cruisers headed to the 140 Mile House area at about 8 a.m. Thursday morning, and officers deployed spike belts.
“We didn’t want it to come on the highway,” Brown says.
Once the Williams Lake RCMP and Cariboo Regional Traffic Services arrived, however, it was determined the car was not the same one involved in the missing child case.
But the people inside the car were wanted by police, Brown says.
The vehicle had been reported stolen out of the Lower Mainland.
Two occupants were found inside the vehicle and were both arrested for possession of stolen property without incident.
They are expected to appear in court this week.
“The Williams Lake detachment would like to thank the alert caller in this instance, along with other people in our communities who act as additional eyes and ears to keep us safe,” Brown says. “It is this concern for safety and level of vigilance that deter criminal acts and allow the RCMP to effectively do their job.”
