Williams Lake RCMP say alcohol was a factor in a single vehicle traffic accident at the intersection of highways 97 and 20, July 31.

Williams Lake RCMP say alcohol was a factor in a single vehicle traffic accident at the intersection of highways 97 and 20, July 31.

The vehicle, a 2004 Buick Rendezvous, struck the signal light pole on Highway 97 and came to a rest blocking the lane of traffic for Highway 20 west.

The vehicle sustained severe damage and the light standard was destroyed.

Police say the driver and vehicle’s lone occupant fled the scene.

The driver’s family members escorted the driver back to the RCMP detachment where the driver provided breath samples for an impaired driving investigation; he was uninjured and did not require medical assistance.

The driver was charged with impaired driving and will appear in Williams Lake Provincial Court at a later date.
