Airplane’s fuel ignites at airport

An aircraft on a scheduled flight to Vancouver experienced minor difficulties.

The Williams Lake Fire Department responded to a call at the Williams Lake Regional Airport Dec. 18 when an aircraft on a scheduled flight to Vancouver experienced minor difficulties.

A small amount of raw fuel ignited as it exited the outlet/exhaust portion of the engine.

“As a precaution the aircraft fire suppression system was activated to eliminate any further risk of fire,” stated the City of Williams Lake in a press release.

The passengers disembarked the aircraft, the fire department attended to ensure there was no further risk to the aircraft, and the flight was delayed until the following morning.
