Williams Lake boxer Cain Olson recently won his first novice fight during a tournament at the 2 Rivers Boxing Club in Quesnel.
"It was good. I had a first knockout," the 17-year-old told the Tribune Thursday, June 12 while working out at the Williams Lake Boxing Gym on Highway 97 run by Gary McLellan.
The boxer he competed against was Rian Hanson of Thunderbird Boxing in Burns Lake.
"It was pretty even," McLellan said of the novice match. "Maybe he was even a little bit behind on points and then he had a bit overhand right throw and got the guy in the jaw and down he went. The ref checked him out and said he wasn't able to continue."
Cain said he's been boxing for about seven months.
McLellan said Cain is doing "good."
Next, McLellan said, they will put Cain's name in for wherever he can compete.
Cain attends Lake City Secondary School and is in Grade 11.
He said he found about the club from Gary's youngest son, Duncan.
When asked what he enjoys about boxing, he responded "it's a beautiful sport. I just love it."
