Williams Lake slo-pitch year-end tournament attracts 21 teams

The Luckys, Rookies, Popin A Homer and Fireballs emerged division winners

The Williams Lake Slo-pitch League year-end tournament saw 21 teams compete Aug. 14 to 18 at the Esler Sports Complex.

Emerging as the winners in the finals were Luckys in Division A, with 18-17 against the Rowdies.

In Division B, the Rookies won 19-7 against Highlife.

Popin a Homer won Division C with a 20-16 final against Cariboo Crew

For Division D, the Fireballs won 19-11 against the Bucks.

League president Linda Barbondy-Rich said the season has been excellent.

"We had 31 teams in total and they each played 16 games and while this tournament is the end of league there are still tournaments after this," she said Sunday morning before her team, Rowdies, prepared for a game.

Over the weekend, each team played two games and then they ended up into a double knock-out division, she explained.

After the season and tournaments are over, the focus of the league will switch to working on the infields and some other work.

Barbondy-Rich said the slo-pitch league is one of the largest adult organizations in Williams Lake.

"We have four fields and we play from April until August, with tournaments going into September and October."
